Background    
     
   

This call for applications is open for persons with the citizenship of or permanent residence in an OSCE participating State.

The OSCE Mission to Serbia and the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Serbia are implementing a three-year project funded by the European Union, which focuses on the institutionalization of a National Support System for Victims and Witnesses within the Serbian criminal justice system. Bearing in mind the comprehensive system of victim and witness support that exists in Sweden, as well as the effective referral mechanism established, the OSCE Mission to Serbia will organize a study visit to the relevant institutions in Sweden for the members of the Serbian Ministerial Working Group asked to develop a national strategic document for victim and witness assistance. The relevant institutions include the Swedish Ministry of Justice, Brottsofferjouren Sverige, Brottsoffermyndigheten, Court Victim Support Unit and the Swedish police service.

Therefore, the OSCE Mission to Serbia is looking for a consultant (Swedish-Serbian Interpreter) to provide consecutive interpretation services from Swedish into Serbian and vice versa during the above mentioned study visit, which will take place in Stockholm, on 6 and 7 December 2018.

     
Tasks and Responsibilities    
     
   

Under the supervision of the OSCE National Legal Officer, the consultant will:

  1. Provide consecutive interpretation from Swedish to Serbian and vice versa during the study visit to Stockholm on 6 and 7 December 2018 for the members of the Ministerial Working Group of the Republic of Serbia asked to draft the National Strategy for Victims of Crime.
  2. Advise the study group participants and accompanying OSCE officials on any relevant local customs, protocols etc.
     
Necessary Qualifications    
     
   
  • University degree in languages, humanities or law;
  • Supplementary training in legal interpretation/translation would be an asset;
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in the field of consecutive or simultaneous interpretation, including at events related to legal and judicial issues;
  • Proven familiarity with terminology related to judiciary, legal education and law;
  • Excellent communication skills;
  • Acquaintance with local traditions and customs in Sweden;
  • Professional fluency in Swedish and Serbian, both written and oral; knowledge of English would be an asset;
  • Computer literate with practical experience in Microsoft packages;
  • Ability and willingness to work with people of different cultural, national and religious background;
  • Demonstrated gender awareness and sensitivity, as well as the ability to integrate a gender perspective into tasks and activities.

Remuneration Package    
     
   

The consultant will be employed on a Special Service Agreement for a total of 2 days (6 and 7 December 2018) and will be paid an amount not exceeding 500 EUR (if recruited from the Republic of Serbia) or 1,000 EUR (if recruited from outside the Republic of Serbia), commensurate to individual qualifications and experience. In the former case, the OSCE will also bear all travel and accommodation expenses.
