Background

This vacancy is open only for the applicants with the citizenship of or permanent residence in the Republic of Serbia.

The OSCE Mission to Serbia is an international organization which employs more than twenty international mission members, in addition to hosting several international interns and junior professional officers. They live and work in Serbia for a certain period, and would thus like to develop at least a basic understanding of the Serbian language, so as to be able to use it in their day-to-day communication. In addition, mentoring language lessons may be required for senior management staff to practise their ability to deliver opening remarks and speeches in Serbian, as well as to work with official documents in Serbian.

Therefore, the Mission requires a Serbian language teacher to be employed on a Special Services Agreement (SSA) who would deliver Serbian language classes to international personnel during their working hours, either online from home or in-person at the Mission’s premises, depending on the epidemiological situation.

Tasks and Responsibilities

Under the supervision of Senior Human Resources Assistant, the consultants will perform the following tasks:

  1. Developing curricula, learning plans and materials for Serbian language lessons;
  2. Preparing, organizing and delivering in-person and/or online Serbian Language Course to up to four groups of international mission members (elementary, pre-intermediate, intermediate and upper-intermediate);
  3. Conducting both group and mentoring lessons in duration of one hour;
  4. Organizing the lessons on an average of 12 days a month, totaling up to 144 working days within one calendar year.

The consultant may work from home or in the Mission, depending on whether lessons will be delivered online or in-person, which will in turn depend on the epidemiological situation. In 2020, it is expected that all lessons will be delivered online, such as via Zoom.

Necessary Qualifications

  • Citizenship of or permanent residence in the Republic of Serbia;
  • University degree in Serbian language or in another closely related subject combined with demonstrated experience of teaching Serbian to adult foreigner learners;
  • Minimum 5 years of professional experience in teaching Serbian to adult learners;
  • At least 2 years of experience in teaching Serbian to adult foreign learners;
  • Experience in conducting virtual lessons via online platforms;
  • Experience in conducting learning needs assessment, evaluation and developing curricula and lesson plans;
  • Professional fluency in English, both oral and written;
  • Computer literate with practical experience in Microsoft packages;
  • Ability and willingness to work with people of different cultural, national and religious backgrounds;
  • Demonstrated gender awareness and sensitivity, as well as the ability to integrate a gender perspective into tasks and activities.
