Background    
     
   

The OSCE Mission to Serbia is looking for highly experienced interpreters who would be placed on the Mission’s consultancy roster and may be hired to provide mainly simultaneous and occasionally consecutive interpretation from Serbian into English and/or from English into Serbian. The interpretation would be provided at events dealing with a variety of topics covered by the Mission’s mandate, such as rule of law, human rights, criminal justice, anti-corruption, judicial and legal services reform, economic crime, police reform, organized crime, human trafficking, community policing, good governance, parliamentary affairs, local self-government, environmental affairs, rights of national minorities, refugees, youth, non-discrimination, media freedom, media literacy, media legislation, digital society, political affairs.

All applicants are required to submit with their application form, at least 3 (three) business references confirming their experience in providing simultaneous interpretation from/to English and Serbian at events dealing with topics similar to those listed above. The selection will be made on the basis of an evaluation of the submitted references.

     
Tasks and Responsibilities    
     
   

Under the supervision of the relevant hiring manager the interpreter will be responsible for:

  1. Providing simultaneous interpretation from Serbian into English and/or from English into Serbian, as required, at the OSCE-organized or OSCE-sponsored events;
  2. Providing consecutive interpretation from Serbian into English and/or from English into Serbian, as required, at meetings or smaller scale gatherings;
  3. Familiarizing with the relevant topics/terminology in preparation for the events/meetings.
     
Necessary Qualifications    
     
   
  • Citizenship of or permanent residence in the Republic of Serbia;
  • University degree or equivalent professional qualification in relevant language(s);
  • Minimum 5 years of professional experience in simultaneous interpretation both from Serbian into English and from English into Serbian in the areas covered by the Mission’s mandate as listed above;
  • Professional fluency in Serbian and English, both oral and written;
  • Computer literacy with practical experience in Microsoft package, including the ability to use online communication tools;
  • Experience using simultaneous interpretation equipment;
  • Demonstrated gender awareness and sensitivity, as well as the ability to integrate gender perspective into tasks and activities;
  • Ability to work with people of different nationalities, religions or cultural backgrounds and diverse views while maintaining impartiality and objectivity.

Remuneration Package    
     
   

Successful applicants will be placed on the Mission’s consultancy roster and may be hired for specific interpretation tasks in the period of 2 (two) years upon completion of the selection process, which is the validity of the roster. Remuneration will be in accordance with the Mission’s interpretation fees valid at the time of the hiring, currently set at 6,000 RSD per hour started.
