Background    
     
   

This is a maternity cover position. The contract will be issued for a period of one year. The incumbent is expected to start in May 2020.

 

The OSCE has a comprehensive approach to security that encompasses politico-military, economic and environmental, and human aspects. It therefore addresses a wide range of security-related concerns, including arms control, confidence- and security-building measures, human rights, national minorities, democratization, policing strategies, counter-terrorism and economic and environmental activities. All 57 participating States enjoy equal status, and decisions are taken by consensus on a politically, but not legally binding basis.

 

The Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) is the principal institution of the OSCE responsible for the human dimension. ODIHR is active throughout the OSCE area in the fields of election observation, democratic development, human rights, tolerance and non-discrimination, and the rule of law. ODIHR's assistance projects and other activities are implemented in participating States in accordance with ODIHR's mandate.

     
Tasks and Responsibilities    
     
   

The Public Affairs Unit promotes human rights and democracy by increasing public understanding and awareness of the ODIHR's work. Under the supervision of the Editor and the ODIHR Spokesperson/Senior Press and Public Information Officer, the Web Editor will perform the following duties:

 

  1. Maintaining the ODIHR website, including by posting new content, regularly updating all relevant pages;
  2. Writing and editing texts for the ODIHR website, including feature stories, ensuring that the information on the ODIHR website complies with OSCE style guidelines, is accurate, current and valid;
  3. Performing research to supplement available information, based on input from ODIHR staff; drafting texts and compiling information for posting on the ODIHR website;
  4. Producing audio-visual materials, including infographics about ODIHR activities and making them available on social media sites;
  5. Monitoring and updating materials on social media sites used by ODIHR;
  6. Creating linked webpages and social media campaigns and overseeing livestream procedures for major ODIHR events;
  7. Selecting and processing photographs for the website;
  8. Acting as a resource person, advising ODIHR staff on content, format, and posting processes, and ensuring that presentation of material is consistent with OSCE visual identity guidelines;
  9. Maintaining regular contact with the online communications team at the OSCE Secretariat to ensure consistency with the overall OSCE web operations;
  10. Performing other related duties as required.

Necessary Qualifications    
     
   
  • First-level university degree in humanities, international relations or information management;
  • A degree or certificate in computer technology or communications would be an asset;
  • Minimum of four years of professional experience, preferably in the field of website and/or publications editing;
  • Experience in an international organization would be desirable;
  • Proven editing skills;
  • Familiarity with all major computer applications;
  • Experience in administering institutional social media accounts would be desirable;
  • Ability and experience in the area of the production of basic audio-visual materials, including Adobe Creative Cloud, would be desirable;
  • Ability to identify and propose solutions;
  • Professional fluency in English, including proven editing skills and the ability to draft and summarize texts; knowledge of another OSCE working language, in particular Russian, would be desirable;
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing;
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with people of different national and cultural backgrounds while remaining impartial and objective;
  • Gender awareness and sensitivity, and an ability to integrate a gender perspective into tasks and activities.

Remuneration Package    
     
   

Monthly remuneration is approximately EUR 4,195 depending on post adjustment and family status. OSCE salaries are exempt from taxation in Poland. Social benefits will include possibility of participation in the Cigna medical insurance scheme and the OSCE Provident Fund. The Organization contributes an amount equivalent to 15% of the employee's salary to this Fund and the employee contributes 7.5%. Other allowances and benefits are similar to those offered under the United Nations Common System.

 

Please note that appointments are made at step 1 of the applicable OSCE salary scale.
