Background    
     
   

Please note that this position is advertised in order that a pool of suitable candidates is established on the OSCE Roster for Temporary Assistance and such candidates will be contacted if there is a temporary vacant position of Manual Worker.

 

The Department of Management and Finance (DMF) is the largest department in the OSCE Secretariat and is responsible for managing the material and financial resources of the Organization. It provides policy guidance on the management of OSCE financial and material resources and develops and maintains OSCE Financial Regulations and Rules and Financial Administrative Instructions. DMF consists of Budget and Finance Services, Mission Support Section, Information and Communication Technology Section and the Information Security and Co-ordination unit. 

 

Mission Support Section provides the working framework for OSCE's procurement and contracting, asset management and logistics, travel management and facilities management activities. It also acts as the policy development and co-ordination point for resource administration in the OSCE’s Executive Structures in relation to these activities, including providing on-site assistance and technical training programmes.

     
Tasks and Responsibilities    
     
   

Under the overall supervision of the Chief Building Support Services and the direct supervision of the Senior Building Maintenance Assistant, the Temporary Manual Worker will be tasked with tasks related to manual maintenance work and relocation of offices and furniture, specifically:

 

  1. Performing manual tasks related to supporting maintenance work and repair of mechanical and sanitary installations, heating and ventilation, air conditioning, water distribution systems and outdoor installations; 
  2. Cleaning surfaces of facades, inner courtyards and other areas in support of the building maintenance assistants;
  3. Moving furniture and equipment in connection to office relocations and the related cleaning, repair and refurbishment of offices;
  4. Assembling, dismantling and moving furniture, partition walls and heavy equipment;
  5. Mounting cupboards, charts, rails, signs, etc., in the premises;
  6. Maintaining storage of furniture components and other assets;
  7. Repairing minor damage to walls, floors and ceilings;
  8. Monitoring stock levels of stationary and re-ordering supplies;
  9. Supporting waste disposal;
  10. Performing other duties as required.

Necessary Qualifications    
     
   
  • Completed secondary education;
  • Vocational training in painting, woodwork, electricity or plumbing;
  • At least one year of practical experience in manual work in a building or facility management environment;
  • Working knowledge of English and/or German;
  • Physically fit and able to carry out demanding strenuous activities;
  • Ability to comply with safety regulations and deal with hazardous substances in a safe manner using protective clothing;
  • Ability to work in a team and establish working relationships with people of different national and cultural backgrounds.

    Remuneration varies according to the level of the job and the selected candidate's qualifications and previous experience.
