Mission Specific Requirements |
Additionally, this particular post has specific requirements:
Mandatory:
- Advanced university degree in law, human rights or other related field/s;
- International field work experience in monitoring, reporting and/or policy-making on human rights issues;
- Experience in the area of property and housing law and/or cultural heritage;
- Experience in legal drafting or law reform projects;
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills;
- Professional fluency in the English language and capability to draft legal decisions under pressure and within short deadlines;
- Demonstrated ability and willingness to work as a member of a team, with people of different cultural and religious backgrounds, different gender, and diverse political views, while maintaining impartiality and objectivity;
- Cultural sensitivity and judgment;
- Flexibility and ability to work under pressure and within limited time frames;
- Ability to operate windows applications, including word processing and e-mail.
Desirable:
- Previous work experience with drafting of legislation and rule of law reports
- Political knowledge/experience in the region and the legal system of the Mission area
- Knowledge of the local language or most common lingua franca spoken in the Mission area

Tasks and Responsibilities |
Under the direct supervision of the Chief of the Property, Cultural Heritage and Interfaith Dialogue Section, the Senior Human Rights Adviser/Property:
- Assists in developing and implementing policies on property related matters and cultural heritage in co-operation with the relevant property actors;
- Supports the work of and provides policy and legal advice to the property officers in the field in relation to property issues and cultural heritage;
- Reviews and analyses proposed legislation and applicable property and procedural law in light of relevant international and European human rights instruments;
- Facilitates activities for the promotion and protection of rights to property, adequate housing and cultural heritage;
- Identifies and analyses capacity building and awareness raising needs in the area of her/his responsibility and, when needed, supports the Organization on activities to promote property and housing rights and cultural heritage;
- Drafts thematic reports that address specific human rights issues/concerns related to property and housing rights and cultural heritage;
- Performs other tasks as assigned.
