Background

The new Law on Prevention and Protection from Discrimination strengthens the protection of the rights of persons with disabilities, men and women, through inter alia the introduction of a public sector equality duty, as well as providing for reasonable accommodation.  According to the law, reasonable accommodation means necessary and appropriate modification and adjustments not imposing a disproportionate or undue burden, where needed in a particular case, to ensure to persons with disabilities the enjoyment or exercise on an equal basis with others of all human rights and fundamental freedoms. Namely, the purpose of every accommodation is to provide the person with disabilities with access to employment, work and advancement in work, education, access to goods and services etc. The question of what type of accommodation is appropriate can be answered following an individual analysis that will take into consideration the conditions of the person with disabilities, the service required, the cost and similar.
