Background
The OSCE Presence in Albania (the Presence), in cooperation with the Faculty of History, Center for Albanian Studies and Institute for Studies Communist Crimes and Consequences will organise a five day summer school that will take place in Tirana from 9-13 July 2018. This activity will be organised in the framework of the OSCE project “Supporting a platform for national dialogue about the human rights violations of Albania’s former Communist regime, Phase II”. A gap in knowledge between the generation that lived through the communist regime and the generation born after it ended is a barrier to an inclusive national dialogue about the past. Youth must be informed about the past in order to participate in this discussion. The aim is to further involve future professionals such as historians, journalists, lawyers and teachers in a discussion on rule of law and human rights violations under the communist regime and how to tackle the legacy of the communist past.
Tasks and responsibilities:
The lecturer will be expected to:
1- Deliver a 45 minutes lecture followed by 45 minutes of discussion on one of the specific topics below:
• Structure of Communism and Totalitarianism
• Comparing communist regimes in the region
• Persecution and propaganda
• Communist legacy today
• Public discourses on communism today in Albania
• Communism period in the history curricula in Albania
• Collective memory on communism in Albania
• Nostalgia vs. Forgetfulness on communism today
• Places of memory of dictatorship
• Arts, Architecture and Culture during Communism
• Myths of national identity during Communism
• Opening of Sigurimi Files
• Reconciliation
2- Involve students in a discussion related to the issue
3- Bring examples to enrich the lecture and provide links with other concepts related to a totalitarian regime
Expected Output/Deliverable:
• A 90 minutes session composed by 45 minutes lecture followed by 45 minutes of discussion related to the topic explained;
• Provide a one page report on the activity to the Contact Point, including feedback from the students related to the topic, within three days from the delivery of the lecture;
Necessary Qualifications
• Lecturer of History, Law, Journalism, Social Science, Political Science, Anthropology, Literature
• Minimum of 10 years of professional experience in lecturing at national and/or international level in History, Law, Journalism, Social Science, Political Science, Anthropology, Literature
• Experience in research and publishing
