- Excellent oral and written English communication skills, including the ability to prepare news- related documents and public presentations in simple, clear language for a broad non-diplomatic audience

Mandatory:
- Minimum 6 years of relevant professional experience in media;
- Experience with leading, designing and implementing media content for interviews, press conferences and media events;
- Strong writing and oral skills for a variety of audiences;
- Ability to act as a Spokesperson when required;
- Previous working experience in the media field;
- Experience in working with journalists and other media professionals including NGOs;
- Professional ability to provide input for social media, features, op-eds and articles;
- Experience in dealing with digital photography and video;
- Professional fluency in English, both oral and written, and the ability to draft texts clearly and concisely;
- Ability to initiate and follow up on projects and work independently;
- Proven ability to draft and edit materials for the media, articles and feature stories;
- Ability to cope with physical hardship and willingness to work extra hours and in an environment with limited infrastructure; proven resilience to high stress environment;
- Demonstrated ability and willingness to work as a member of a team, with people of different cultural and religious backgrounds, different gender, and diverse political views while maintaining impartiality and objectivity;
- Cultural sensitivity and sound judgement;
- Knowledge of the historical and current political situation in Ukraine;
- Ability to operate Windows applications, including word processing, databases, and e-mail.
Desirable:
- Experience of working in an international organization, public affairs or professional communications;
- Competence in print and electronic media production and the mechanics of print and electronic technology;
- Working knowledge of the Ukrainian and/or Russian language(s).

Tasks and Responsibilities |
Initial duration of assignment for this post is for a period of 12 months, with a possibility of extension, subject to a subsequent OSCE Permanent Council Decision to extend the mandate of the Mission.
If applicable, deployment is subject to attendance to and successful completion of pre-deployment training and assessment.
Applicants are hereby notified that the Special Monitoring Mission to Ukraine (SMM) is designated by the OSCE as a nonfamily duty station. This designation is based on the fluid and dynamic working environment in the SMM and with due consideration to recommendations of the UN International Civil Service Commission. The currently prevailing working conditions in the duty station may include working in a hazardous location with extended hours of service, and possibly curtailed freedom of movement. Successful candidates who are appointed to locations deemed by the OSCE as hazardous will receive hazard pay. In addition, all successful candidates will be required to participate in the OSCE accident and life insurance scheme in accordance with the OSCE Staff Regulations and Staff Rules.
The selected candidate will be deployed in Lviv Monitoring Team (MT) with regular travels to the western MTs (Ivano - Frankivsk, Chernivtsi). Under the guidance and direction of the Chief of Press and Public Information and the direct supervision of the Press and Public Information Officer, the Media Focal Point performs the following duties:
- Drafting news items, stories and interviews related to the Mission activities in the area of responsibility;
- Implementing media strategy designed to generate maximum positive local, regional and international coverage of Mission activities in western Ukraine;
- Organizing press conferences and media events in western Ukraine;
- Drafting articles and other content for social media;
- Acting as Mission's Spokesperson in western Ukraine;
- Monitoring local and international media, as well as social media and produces regular summaries and updates of relevant information;
- Handling requests for interviews from domestic and foreign journalists, drafts press lines and talking points;
- Developing and maintains a media contact database;
- Contributing input for Mission's website, intranet and social media channels;
- Advising senior management on the media related questions and public outreach;
- Being responsible for the design of the hand-out materials; distributes accurate information on the SMM activities to media in western Ukraine;
- Conducting regional outreach activities in support of the Mission's mandate, in co-ordination with the respective Team Leaders and Chief of PPIU at the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission to Ukraine's Head Office;
- Performing other duties as assigned.
