Background:

The incumbent is assigned to the Project Co-ordinator in Uzbekistan (PCUz) under the Office of the Head of Mission and will provide administrative and translation/interpretation support covering a wide variety of written and spoken communications in English, Russian and Uzbek languages.

 Tasks and Responsibilities:

Simultaneous and interpretation tasks from/to English, Uzbek and Russian

Written translation of a wide variety of  materials from English into Uzbek/Russian and Uzbek/Russian into English, including newsletters, bulletins, forms, terms of references, letters, menus, legislative documents, memoranda, notices and teaching materials;

Provides English/Uzbek/Russian simultaneous and/or consecutive translation at meetings with PCUz representatives, local authorities and project partners;

Participation at conferences and social gatherings and provision of simultaneous/consecutive English/Uzbek/Russian interpretations and interpretation of technical terminology to facilitate communications, promote understanding and develop rapport with Russian/Uzbek speaking counterparts;

Organizational and Administrative Duties

 Organization of meetings and events, official visits, including booking premises, organizing transportation, logistics;

Compiles background materials and draft papers for seminars and conferences, draft as required, evaluations, analyses and justifications within the assigned area of responsibility;

Maintenance of the office record management system in close cooperation with the responsible staff member in the office of the Head of Mission;

Drafts on own initiative or under instructions correspondence, documents and reports, some of which are highly confidential;

Other duties

Replaces Senior Secretary when necessary;

Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma, supplemented by translation/interpretation, secretarial or other relevant training;
  • Minimum 4 years of work experience in administration/record management and/or in translation and interpretation applied to English, Uzbek and Russian usage including good grammar, structure, spelling, pronunciation, punctuation, vocabulary and comprehension;
  • Technical terminology, computer literate with practical experience in Microsoft applications;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English, Uzbek and Russian languages;
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Ability to work with people of different nationalities, religions and cultural backgrounds.

 Remuneration Package

Appointment is normally made at step 1 of the applicable OSCE salary scale. At the discretion of the appointing authority a higher step may be approved up to a maximum of step 3 subject to specific conditions.
