Background:

The Political and Reporting Unit provides strategic analysis of political issues, ensuring that trends and developments relevant to the Mission’s work are brought to the attention of Senior Staff. This is achieved through verbal briefings, drafting background and working papers, spot reports and policy briefs. The Unit is also responsible for ensuring that the OSCE Secretariat is informed of developments through targeted reporting, as well as supporting high-level visits by drafting comprehensive briefing packs. To assist the Political Section in these tasks, the Intern will be responsible for assisting in the compilation and analysis of information, conducting specific research and editing/drafting targeted reports on various issues of interest to the Mission. The Intern will have the possibility to become acquainted with and get a holistic picture of the political and programmatic work pursued by the OSCE Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina. The intern will be directly reporting to the Senior Political Advisor within the Political Section and in the second instance, to the Chief of Policy and Planning.

 

Tasks and Responsibilities:

  1. Monitoring, compiling and analysing information on political and socio-economic issues of interest to the Mission;
  2. Assisting in drafting reports for dissemination within the Mission as well as with the Secretariat in Vienna;
  3. Providing assistance with the proofreading and editing of various political/analytical documents;
  4. Attending external meetings;
  5. Drafting specific research and spot reports;
  6. Performing other duties as assigned.

 

Necessary Qualifications:

  • Be between 19 and 30 years old on the date of the deadline of this vacancy notice;
  • Have completed two years of full-time studies from an accredited institution or have completed a first or advanced degree in international relations, political philosophy, political science, law, history, or related fields no longer than two years ago by the date of the deadline of the vacancy notice;
  • Professional fluency in written and spoken English and the ability to draft documents clearly and concisely;
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Good research skills;
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with people from different national and cultural backgrounds, whilst maintaining impartiality and objectivity.

 

Remuneration:

The OSCE is not in a position to pay any remuneration or cover any expenses incurred by the intern during his/her stay in Sarajevo nor reimburse travel expenses. However, interns selected who are non-residents of Sarajevo may be eligible for some compensation towards their living costs in Sarajevo. The internship lasts up to six (6) months and does not constitute a commitment to future employment with the OSCE. The selected intern interns shall provide the OSCE with evidence that he/she has health insurance coverage which is valid for Bosnia and Herzegovina, otherwise he/she shall be obliged to join the OSCE group health insurance scheme for the period of their internship, at their own expense. The OSCE will cover life and disability insurance for the duration of internship.
