The Democratic Governance Section (DGS), as a part of the Human Dimension Department (HDD) of the OSCE Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina works with elected officials at all levels of government in Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as representatives of civil society on a range of topics relevant for the country’s reform and policy goals. As part of its regular work the Section contributes to building community cohesion and increasing trust in elected local officials. The DGS therefore seeks the services of an intern who will assist in small scale research, editing, and preparation of regular topical reports and analysis. The intern will have the possibility to become acquainted with and get a holistic picture of the democratic governance and human dimension work pursued by the OSCE Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina. The intern will be directly reporting to the National Chief of Democratic Governance Section.

Tasks and Responsibilities |
|

|
|
|
|
|
The selected intern will have the opportunity to gain an overview/familiarize themselves in the area of democratic governance. Specifically, the incumbent performs the following tasks:
- Preparing drafts, reviewing and editing the Democratic Governance Section inputs and internal and external correspondence;
- Providing assistance in reviewing, summarizing and editing the Democratic Governance Section weekly, monthly, progress and annual reports, as well as various legal, political and parliamentary documents;
- Assisting in producing thematic reports on work of civil society organizations, municipal, cantonal, entity and state institutions with particular focus on political processes and governance;
- Contributing to drafting inputs to regular internal reports, talking points, memos and briefing files/notes for the files;
- Supporting the DGS National Programme Officers (NPOs) in accurate gathering, structuring and flow of information particularly in the spotting of key governance issues;
- Providing assistance in organizing meetings and large scale events;
- Assisting n setting up a survey, compiling data and conducting small-scale research and analysis on potential governance issues;
- Providing assistance in creating overviews, updating data and keep track of progress;
- Performing other duties as assigned.

Necessary Qualifications |
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
- Applicants should be under the age of 30 and from an OSCE participating State;
- Have completed two years of full-time studies from an accredited institution or have completed a first or advanced degree in a field of political or social science, linguistic or related field no longer than two years before the date of the deadline of the vacancy notice;
- Professional fluency in BCS with excellent communication skills;
- Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English and an ability to draft documents clearly and concisely;
- Familiarity/knowledge with/of governance;
- Basic knowledge of particular competencies, functions and legal environment of local government in BiH will be considered an asset;
- Strong organizational and communication skills with ability to work under pressure, manage multiple tasks and process large amount of information;
- Excellent drafting and analytical skills;
- Experience in proofreading, drafting and editing reports and information materials would be an asset;
- Previous experience in governmental or non-governmental initiatives would be an asset;
- Computer literate with practical experience in Microsoft applications;
- Demonstrated ability and willingness to work with people of different cultural and religious backgrounds and diverse political views while maintaining impartiality and objectivity;
- Demonstrated gender awareness and sensitivity and an ability to integrate a gender perspective into task and activities.

Remuneration Package |

|
The OSCE is not in a position to pay any remuneration or cover any expenses incurred by the intern during his/her stay in Sarajevo nor reimburse travel expenses. However, interns selected who are non-residents of Sarajevo may be eligible for some compensation towards their living costs in Sarajevo.
The internship lasts up to six (6) months and does not constitute a commitment to future employment with the OSCE.
The selected intern interns shall provide the OSCE with evidence that he/she has health insurance coverage which is valid for Bosnia and Herzegovina, otherwise he/she shall be obliged to join the OSCE group health insurance scheme for the period of their internship, at their own expense. The OSCE will cover life and disability insurance for the duration of internship.
