The Office of the Secretary General (OSG) provides general services to the Secretary General (SG), the Chairperson-in-Office and the participating States. It groups horizontal services such as Executive Management, Communication and Media Relations, Legal Services, External Co-operation, Security Management, Gender Affairs, Conference and Language Services and Central Records Management, and oversees the Prague Office.
The Communication and Media Relations Section (COMMS) is part of the Office of the Secretary General, and promotes awareness and understanding of the OSCE’s work among outside audiences by working with the media, by developing an effective communications strategy, using all available tools and innovative new channels to increase visibility and engagement, and get the Organization’s messages across to key stakeholders as well as the general public.
Please note that OSCE internships are full-time (40 hour week). Candidates from non-EU participating States holding a student/resident permit in an EU country will require a D (working) visa.

Tasks and Responsibilities |
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
Under the supervision of the Deputy Head, COMMS, and the Online Communications Manager, the Communication and Media Relations Intern will be responsible for:
- Updating and maintaining the media contacts database;
- Conducting media monitoring;
- Co-ordinating input and production of the bi-monthly OSCE Communications Visibility Report;
- Assisting with publishing items on the OSCE website and on social media platforms;
- Assisting with the preparation, co-ordination and holding of press conferences and other media events;
- Assisting with the OSCE’s Visitors’ groups programme;
- Assisting in the research/production of the OSCE online Magazine;
- Translating short communications-related texts from/into English/Russian;
- Assisting with audio/video activities, such as taking pictures or helping to record videos;
- Assisting with the production of graphics and infographics;
- Performing other communications duties as assigned.

Necessary Qualifications |
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
- Applicants should be under the age of 30 and from an OSCE participating State;
- Students in the final year of higher education (university or other accredited institution) at graduate or postgraduate level, i.e. within two years of graduation, or recent graduates or postgraduates, with a background in media studies, journalism, political science, international relations or a related field;
- Professional fluency in English, with superior oral and drafting skills; excellent knowledge of Russian would be a strong asset;
- Experience with Social Media, multimedia projects, film and/or TV production, photography or a related field is a strong asset;
- Strong analytical, research and communication skills;
- An understanding of how to work with multiple audiences, and create and maintain networks of interest;
- Ability to initiate ideas and to bring them to fruition as part of a team effort;
- Some work experience/previous internships in an international or regional environment is desirable;
- Excellent IT knowledge, including familiarity with Microsoft Office and Internet applications; familiarity with the Adobe Suite is an asset;
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with people from different national and cultural backgrounds, whilst maintaining impartiality and objectivity.

Remuneration Package |

|
|
Please note that the OSCE is not in a position to pay any remuneration nor reimburse travel expenses. However, selected interns who are non-residents of Vienna may be eligible for some compensation towards their living costs in Vienna.
The internship lasts three (3) six (6) months and does not constitute a commitment to future employment with the OSCE.
The selected intern will participate in the group health insurance scheme at his/her own expense but the OSCE will cover life and disability insurance.
