Background    
     
   

The OSCE has a comprehensive approach to security that encompasses politico-military, economic and environmental, and human aspects. It therefore addresses a wide range of security-related concerns, including arms control, confidence- and security-building measures, human rights, national minorities, democratization, policing strategies, counter-terrorism and economic and environmental activities. All 57 participating States enjoy equal status, and decisions are taken by consensus on a politically, but not legally binding basis.

 

The OSCE Secretariat in Vienna assists the Chairmanship in its activities, and provides operational and administrative support to the field operations, and, as appropriate, to other institutions.

 

The Department of Management and Finance (DMF) is responsible for managing the material and financial resources of the Organization. The objective of DMF is to provide efficient and effective management of non-staff resources in support of OSCE programmatic activities. It provides policy guidance on the management of OSCE financial and material resources and develops and maintains OSCE Financial Regulations and Rules and Financial Administrative Instructions. DMF consists of Budget and Finance Services, Mission Support Section, Information and Communication Technology Section and the Information Security and Co-ordination Unit. 

 

The post is located in the Facilities Management Unit with task to provide on-going daily support for functioning of the OSCE premises in Vienna.

     
Tasks and Responsibilities    
     
   

Under the overall supervision of the Chief, Facilities Management Unit and the direct supervision of the Senior Building Management Assistant, you will perform tasks related to cleaning services to keep the interior and partially exterior of the used by the OSCE premises in Vienna in orderly condition, supports meetings and receptions with the provision of set up and refreshments. More specifically, you will be responsible for:

 

  1. Carrying out cleaning and other sanitation related duties in the Secretariat. Responsible for cleaning of offices, meeting rooms, vertical traffic areas, stairways, elevators and common areas, including, but not limited to toilets and bars;
  2. Supporting official visits, meetings, conferences and receptions with preparation and provision of refreshments and setup and cleaning of the facilities;  
  3. Performing specific cleaning works as and when required like cleaning of windows, ceilings or outdoor yards;
  4. Monitoring of stock levels for cleaning and hygienic supplies and initiating timely re-ordering via immediate supervisor;
  5. Informing the supervisor on discovered defects or issues requiring repair;
  6. Performing other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Necessary Qualifications    
     
   
  • Completed secondary education;
  • Experience in working as a cleaner with knowledge of simple machine operations and use of cleaning materials/solutions is distinct asset;
  • Experience in serving food and beverages is desirable;
  • Working knowledge of English and some German knowledge;
  • Ability to comply with safety regulations and deal with industrial cleaning solutions;
  • Ability to work in a team and establish working relationships with people of different national and cultural backgrounds.

Remuneration Package    
     
   

Monthly remuneration, subject to social security deduction, is EUR 2,165 (12 times a year). OSCE salaries are exempt from taxation in Austria. Social benefits will include possibility of participation in the Cigna medical insurance scheme.

 

Please note that appointments are normally made at step 1 of the applicable OSCE salary scale.
