Open Call for Participation in the OSCE Presence in Albania’s Research Programme On Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism and Radicalization that Lead to Terrorism (VERLT),supported and funded by the UK Embassy in Albania.

Background:

Within its efforts to support Albania to effectively build capacities and mechanisms to prevent and counter Violent Extremism and Radicalization that Lead to Terrorism (VERLT), the OSCE Presence in Albania (“the Presence”) is developing a programme to enhance local research capacities, and support initiatives that will provide essential data and give a fresh assessment of the phenomenon and the threat it poses in Albania. The programme will entail an interdisciplinary training course for researchers and practitioners in Albania on researching VERLT, and understanding complexity of issues and situations. As VERLT is a multifaceted phenomenon deriving and impacting a range of social, scientific, economic, cultural, environmental, political, and technological issues, the interdisciplinary approach to research is crucial in integrating and benefiting from the understanding and application of the approaches of different subjects and disciplines. The training course will ensure that the conceptual challenges and human rights issues that may arise in countering and preventing VERLT be taken into consideration in the research methods and studies. In addition to the research course, the programme will offer limited funding to a maximum of 10 selected researchers and practitioners to conduct a research based on proposed and approved concept, and the final research reports will be published and presented to a broader audience. The successful candidates of the course, recipients of the OSCE funding for research will be assisted to network with fellow researchers and practitioners regionally and internationally. By the end of the programme, the participants of the interdisciplinary training will have well-developed information and skills to conduct systematic research on preventing and countering VERLT. Participants will develop new perspectives and ideas, and will be interconnected with broader network of researchers.

Necessary Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in International Relations, Law, Human Rights, Social Sciences or equivalent professional experience;
  • Very good knowledge of English language (speaking, writing and reading)
  • Proven research and/or policy making experience;
  • Able to commit for 5 full days throughout the delivery of the training.

Remuneration:

1. The 5-day training course will take  place in Tirana, Albania.

Training materials, meals and refreshments will be provided by the organizers. For Non-Tirana Residents: Half-Board Accommodation, meals, travel to and from Tirana will be provided.

2. From 20 participants in the training course, based on an approved research concept, 10 will be selected to conduct research in areas vulnerable to VERLT under professional guidance. An allowance of up to 1,500 Euro will be granted to those selected.
