The OSCE Mission to Moldova’s mandate includes to facilitate a comprehensive and lasting political settlement of the Transdniestrian conflict in all its aspects, consolidating the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Moldova with an understanding about a special status for Transdniestria within Moldova's internationally recognized borders. To that end, the Mission is, inter alia, mandated to gather information on the situation in the Security Zone in the Republic of Moldova and investigate incidents in support of its mandated task to facilitate a peaceful settlement to the Transdniestria conflict and to provide early warning. This requires frequent monitoring in the Security Zone and establishing and maintaining regular contact with official bodies and the local populations of the Sides. Additionally, the Mission seeks to increase engagement with both Sides and other involved partners to develop initiatives for reducing tension, building confidence and promoting dialogue.
