Background

Pursuing the goals of supporting the host government in implementation of sound green economy policies the PCUz support will be directed to exchange best practices in development of policies, and increasing public awareness on sustainable practices in agriculture, in particular among farmers to enhance their sustainable productivity growth capacities through mitigating and adaptive practices.

The main goal of the project is to assist in the implementation of green economy mechanisms and the promotion of principles and methods of sustainable agriculture among agricultural producers in Uzbekistan, including by raising awareness of the impact of agriculture on the environment and methods of more sustainable agricultural practices.

In this regard, the project envisages implementation of following tasks:

  • Assistance in the implementation of sustainable agricultural practices, including the adoption of government policies to promote such industries as organic farming, rational use of resources and sustainable soil management;
  • Involvement of non-profit non-governmental organizations and the business sector in promoting the implementation of public policies on the use of sustainable and environmentally friendly technologies and practices;
  • Raising the awareness of agricultural producers regarding the principles of sustainable agriculture, organic farming and the principles of sustainable soil management.

Thus, the project contributes to a number of United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) objectives, in particular:

  • Goal 9 – Build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization and foster innovation;
  • Goal 12 – Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns;
  • Goal 13 – Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts

The expert is tasked to conduct research works on the implementation possibilities of implementing sustainable composting practices in the agricultural sector of Uzbekistan.

Tasks:

Under the supervision of the EED Senior Project Officer and National Project Officer, the consultant will perform the following tasks:

 

  • Study and prepare overview information on international best practices, international standards, as well as assessments of opinions, international organizations, experts in the field of recycling of agricultural and other organic waste by composting;
  • Take part in the development of proposals for the sustainable composting of the agricultural and other organic waste into the organic fertilizers based on the study of the experience of leading European countries and opinions of experts, as well as research findings over the pilot project in Uzbekistan;
  • Provide guidance to the selected company and Ministry of Agriculture on implementation of pilot project for composting of agricultural and residual organic waste;
  • Provide recommendations for implementing policies aimed at introducing sustainable composting practices in agriculture of Uzbekistan.

The consultant will work from home.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 10 years of relevant work experience in the area of waste management especially in consulting projects focused on sustainable solutions;
  • A good understanding and knowledge on sustainable waste management solutions in European Union;
  • Produced publications, questionnaires, textbooks etc. on sustainable waste management;
  • Fluent in Russian language

Remuneration Package:

Remuneration will depend on qualifications and experience of the candidate and will be based on the current OSCE PCUz rates for Consultants/Experts. Period of consultancy: 52 working days in the period from 1 June to 31 December 2021
