The OSCE Special Monitoring Mission to Ukraine is looking for highly qualified, motivated and experienced Ukrainian professionals for the position of Senior Translator/Interpreter Assistant with its Head Office in Kyiv. The OSCE is committed to achieving a better balance of women and men within the Organization.
Initial duration of appointment is for 12 months, subject to a subsequent OSCE Permanent Council Decision to extend the mandate of the Mission.

Tasks and Responsibilities |

|
Under the supervision of the National Co-ordination Officer, who in charge of the Translation Cell, the incumbent provides professional translation and consecutive/simultaneous interpretation services from English into Ukrainian and Russian language and vice versa, primarily to senior managers at the Office of the Head of Mission but also for other Units/Sections at the SMM Head Office. The incumbent may be required to work on shifts: 9.00-18.00 and 11.00-20.00. More specifically, the incumbent:
- Is responsible for the written translation of texts and documents of various kinds as assigned, including, but not limited to, daily and spot reports, thematic reports on different topics, official correspondence between the Mission, Ukrainian authorities, other high-level officials and stakeholders; news articles, press releases, and administrative notes;
- Provides simultaneous and/or consecutive interpretation from Ukrainian and/or Russian into English, and vice versa;
- Accompanies Mission members, primarily senior managers at the Office of the Head of Mission but also Heads of Units/Sections and other OSCE officials, to provide interpretation during meetings, conferences, and other public events, including media appearances, and prepares reports on those events as required;
- Proofreads and reviews translations produced by other Language Assistants, when required;
- Performs other duties including: meets and co-ordinates with other Language Assistants and supervisory personnel in order to meet the objectives of the Translation Cell; keeps minutes of the discussions and reports summaries from meetings and conferences; follows developments in relevant areas of work assignments, such as the political situation and developments in the activities of the Mission; prepares reports, forms and other documentation, as required by the Translation Cell.

Necessary Qualifications |
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
- Ukrainian citizenship or holding permanent resident status in Ukraine;
- Completed secondary education;
- A minimum of six years of experience in providing translation and language interpreting skills, preferably in international organizations;
- Proven experience with simultaneous and consecutive interpretation;
- Knowledge of and experience with diplomatic, military, legal, and political terminology;
- Computer literacy with practical experience in Microsoft Office applications, experience with translation software desirable;
- Professional fluency in English, Russian and Ukrainian languages, excellent written and oral communication skills in the mentioned languages;
- Demonstrated ability and willingness to work as a member of a team, with people of different cultural and religious backgrounds, different gender, and diverse political views, while maintaining impartiality and objectivity;
- Demonstrated gender awareness and sensitivity, as well as the ability to integrate a gender perspective into tasks and activities;
- Cultural sensitivity and judgment.

Remuneration Package |
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
Monthly remuneration, subject to social security deductions is 1176.00 Euro/month. Social benefits will include participation in the Cigna health insurance scheme and social security / Provident Fund. Appointments are normally made at step 1 of the applicable OSCE salary scale. |
