Background

Duration of the internship within the Security and Public Safety Department is 6 months

Tasks and Responsibilities

The selected intern will have an opportunity to gain an overview and familiarize with the matters related to training and education, and career development of police and other law enforcement providers working within the security sector. Under the supervision of the Kosovo Academy for Public Safety (KAPS) National Officer of the Special Advisory Unit (SAU), the intern will be located at the KAPS/SAU Office, and requested to perform the following duties:

  • Support the SAU KAPS Advisory to conduct an assessment at the KAPS and Kosovo Police (KP) for the period 1999-2017, gather information and analysis on the police capacity building, and produce a report with recommendations;
  • Gather data from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Accreditation Agency, and National Qualification Authority at appropriate levels, to ensure KAPS compliance with the recognised training and education procedures;
  • Collect data from various sections of the KAPS (accreditation and certification, testing and evaluation, curriculum) to ensure compliance with the KAPS mission and vision;
  • Provide assistance in the implementation of SAU’s on-going activities.

Necessary Qualifications

  • Be not older than 30 years on the date of the deadline of the vacancy notice;
  • The incumbent should have completed two years of full-time post-secondary education in an accredited institution or have completed a first or advanced degree in a field relevant to the OSCE’s mandate no longer than two years before the date of the deadline of the vacancy notice;
  • University education in International Affairs, International Security, Political Science, Sociology or Law;
  • Professional fluency in English with excellent communication skills. Knowledge of local languages would be an asset;
  • Strong analytical, research and drafting skills;
  • Good organizational skills with ability to process and classify information quickly and efficiently;
  • Excellent IT knowledge, familiarity with Microsoft Office and Internet applications;
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with people from different national and cultural backgrounds, whilst maintaining impartiality and objectivity;
  • Experience in drafting publications and reports is a strong asset;
  • Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English is essential.

Remuneration Package

The OSCE is not in a position to pay any remuneration or cover any expenses incurred by the intern during his/her stay nor reimburse travel expenses. Social benefits will include participation in the Cigna health insurance scheme. The internship does not constitute a commitment to future employment with the OSCE.
