Background:

The Education Section, as a part of the Human Dimension Department of the OSCE Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina, supports education authorities in Bosnia and Herzegovina to make necessary changes to ensure quality education and guarantee the rights of all students. In this regard implementation of the OECD Programme for International Student Assessment – PISA 2018 aims to assist the educational authorities across the country to identify the downsides of current education systems and to jointly create a shared framework for a more inclusive quality education of the future. The Agency for Pre-school, Primary and Secondary Education (APOSO) is tasked to, in cooperation with responsible education authorities, conduct PISA 2018 in schools across BiH. The Education Section requires the services of an Intern to provide assistance in the field of education reform with emphasis on international assessments and implementation of PISA 2018 main survey. The Intern will be directly reporting to the National Programme Officer, Access and Non-Discrimination and in the second instance, to the National Chief, Education Section.

 

Tasks and Responsibilities:

The selected Intern will have the opportunity to gain an overview/familiarize themselves in the area of education. Specifically, the incumbent performs the following tasks:

  1. Conducting research in the area of education reform in BiH and international assessments;
  2. Assisting in the preparation of background papers, reports, speeches, talking points and letters;
  3. Attending and summarizing meetings;
  4. Conducting school visits;
  5. Cooperating closely with the Agency for Pre-school, Primary and Secondary Education (APOSO);
  6. Assisting in the organization of events related to implementation of the Programme for International Student Assessment – PISA 2018;
  7. Performing other duties as assigned.

 

Necessary Qualifications:

  • Be at least 19 years old and have completed two years of full-time studies from an accredited institution or have completed a first cycle degree in social science, education, psychology, pedagogy no longer than two years ago by the date of the deadline of the vacancy notice;
  • Excellent IT knowledge, familiarity with Microsoft Office and Internet applications;
  • Professional fluency in BCS and English with excellent communication skills; 
  • Very good analytical, research and drafting skills;
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with people from different national and cultural backgrounds, whilst maintaining impartiality and objectivity;
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently;
  • Knowledge and interest in social science research methods, research in education, statistics and psychometrics, in particular in relation to measurement of skills and knowledge, abilities, attitudes and educational achievement would be an asset.

    

Remuneration:

The OSCE is not in a position to pay any remuneration or cover any expenses incurred by the intern during his/her stay in Sarajevo nor reimburse travel expenses. However, interns selected who are non-residents of Sarajevo may be eligible for some compensation towards their living costs in Sarajevo. The internship lasts up to six (6) months and does not constitute a commitment to future employment with the OSCE. The selected intern interns shall provide the OSCE with evidence that he/she has health insurance coverage which is valid for Bosnia and Herzegovina, otherwise he/she shall be obliged to join the OSCE group health insurance scheme for the period of their internship, at their own expense. The OSCE will cover life and disability insurance for the duration of internship.
