Background    
     
   

The OSCE Programme Office in Dushanbe is looking for a highly qualified, motivated and experienced professional for the position of Language Assistant for its Border Management Staff College (BMSC) in Dushanbe.

Tasks and Responsibilities    
     
   

Under guidance and supervision of the BMSC Chief Training and Education Officer [Project Officer], performs the following duties:

Interpretation (consecutive and simultaneous):

  • Provides high level interpretation services both consecutive and simultaneous at the high level meetings, seminars, negotiations, other BMSC events including one to one and group settings;
  • Assists in BMSC organizing conferences, seminars, training courses and meetings with a variety of national and international attendees;
  • Interprets messages simultaneously or consecutively into specified languages, orally or by using hand signs, maintaining message content, context, and style as much as possible.

Translation:

  • Provides written translation, as applicable, legal, administrative or technical documents, training material, instructional and educational materials, correspondence, and forms, from local languages, Tajik, Russian, to English and vice versa;

Editing and Proofreading:

  • Edits and revises translated materials, checks translations of technical terms and terminology to ensures that they are accurate and remain consistent throughout translation revisions;
  • Reviews translated material for accuracy of meaning, grammar and syntax. Answers inquiries from patients, community agencies, and individuals and interpret and explain words and phrases for meaning and appropriateness;
  • Compiles terminology and reads written materials, such as legal documents, scientific works, or news reports, and rewrite material into specified languages to ensure translation accuracy;
  • Other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor.
     
Necessary Qualifications    
     
   
  • Secondary education supplemented by formal studies in languages;
  • Minimum four years’ experience and established ability to translate and interpret preferably acquired in an International Organization; Computer literate with practical experience in Microsoft packages;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and Russian and local languages;
  • Ability to work with people of different nationalities, religions and cultural backgrounds;
  • Demonstrated gender awareness and sensitivity, and an ability to integrate a gender perspective into tasks and activities.

Remuneration Package    
     
    Monthly remuneration, subject to social security deductions, is 751.50 EUR. Social benefits will include participation in the Cigna medical insurance scheme and the OSCE Provident Fund.
