Mandatory:

Educational background in environmental studies, sustainable development, or related fields; or relevant professional experience in such areas

Professional experience in the fields of environmental development and protection and design of sustainable development projects

Proven work experience in project management: project development, including budgeting, monitoring, implementation, and reporting (both narrative and financial)

Ability to establish contacts and develop confident relations with government officials and institutions, as well as civil society

Professional fluency in the English language and the ability to draft documents clearly and concisely

Communication, interpersonal and analytical skills

Tasks and Responsibilities |
Under the direct supervision of the Head of the Economic and Environmental Unit, the Environmental Officer manages project activities and supports policy formulation processes assigned to him/her. The incumbent must carefully follow environmental, economic, social and political developments in and around Azerbaijan. The Environmental Officer must at all times be well informed of all activities in the Economic and Environmental Unit in order to, when necessary, replace the Head of Unit.
Specifically, the Environmental Officer performs the following duties:

Proposes, develops, manages and monitors projects and other activities within the economic and environmental dimension of the Office's mandate, with a focus on environmental security, such as the promotion of sustainable energy, integrated water management and oil spills preparedness;

Travels regularly to the regions outside Baku in order to monitor project activities and maintain contacts with local government bodies and with civil society;

At the national level, facilitates contacts and promotes information exchange with national authorities, universities, research institutions, NGO's and international organizations;

Provides advice to the Head of Unit on economic and environmental current affairs;
-
In co-ordination with the Office's Press and Public Information Officer, prepares material for the media on the Office's economic and environmental activities;
-
Supports the Head of Unit in organizing OSCE events and seminars, inter alia, regional seminars and visits to the area by OSCE delegations, as well as other events with OSCE participation;
-
Performs other duties as required.
